Police Equipment Foundation (P.E.F). Benin National Congress decries acceptance of donations by the Inspector General of Police.

The Nigerian public was on Wednesday (16 April 17, 2008) shocked to learn of a ceremony where the coordinator of the questionable Police Equipment Fund donated 25 Jeeps to the Nigeria Police Force at a time the over 50 Billion Naira obtained by the architects of the Foundation is being vigorously investigated. It is a known fact that Chief Kenny Martins and his co-architects of the P.E.F are being questioned on the monies they obtained from corporate bodies and the good people of Nigeria under the guise of raising funds for the boosting of the equipments of Nigeria Police Force.

It is rather disheartening to learn of this development because it stands to erode the lean confidence Nigeria public has in the Nigeria Police Force. Whatever logic the I.G.P. may have based his decision to receive the precious Sports Utilities Vehicles; he has shown a degree of insensitivity to the yearnings of Nigeria people. At a time beneficiaries of several donations are considering returning same to the foundation because of the seeming dis-creditability of the foundation and its architects, the Police Force is accepting gifts, what an irony.

We urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to sustain its probe of the Foundation as only time shall tell of all who rendered service or dis-service to our dear country.

As a stakeholder in the affairs of Nigeria, we cannot gloss over any act that has the capacity of truncating our march to an egalitarian and corrupt-free society. We urge the I.G.P to review the acceptance of the Gift and its implication to the anti-corruption war. Nigerians fears that the acceptance may truncate the much-touted probe of the Police Equipment Foundation.
