Let Your Work Speak - A speech presented on the 27th of Feb. 2007
LET YOUR WORK SPEAK FOR YOU - A PAPER PRESENTED IN HONOR OF MATTHEW URHOGHIDE BY THE PRESIDENT OF BNC DURING A COURTESY VISIT BY THE A.C. SENATORIAL CANDIDATE TO THE B.N.C. SECRETARIAT ON SATURDAY 27TH JANUARY 2007.
We salute our chief guest (Dr. Matthew A. Urhoghide), members of his campaign train and his distinguished friends and Associates. As you are no doubt aware, the B.N.C has resolved that in the countdown to April elections, we shall no doubt ensure that only credible Benins are elected as representatives of the people. This informed the resolve to provide an interactive forum between candidates of Political Parties and the Congress.
The title of this paper was chosen in appreciation of the fact that Mr. Urhoghide is not a stranger in the struggle to resist the perpetuation of ungrateful elements who parade themselves as “elected” representatives of the people. This accounted for his nomination as a recipient of the 1st Benin National Merit Award in 2005. We have seen you, examined you and endorsed you before and so you stand another chance of being endorsed again. We would only caution that you conduct your campaign machinery in a manner that is devoid of violence and thuggery. This is one major aspect of Nigerian politics that would not be condoned by the good people of Benin Nation in the countdown to April elections. We appreciate that you find yourself in an environment where the Will of the people have been suppressed and repressed in the last eight years, we can assure you that whether political buccaneers likes it or not, God Almighty and the Ancestors of our Land will make the State uncomfortable for them and they will either flee for their own safety or they will support the desperately needed positive change.
In the last four years, the Edo South Senatorial District has been under-represented in the senate and this has manifested in the near – zero – federal presence, maginalization in the appointment and employment quota as well as under-funding of major concerns of our people. This time around, only the best would be endorsed and if you guarantee the Congress that the best Candidate is Matthew Urhoghide, and then you can take it for granted that you will be endorsed in few days.
The Congress wishes to remind you that as the apex Youth Organization in Edo State, its task is quite Herculean and deserved to be supported. This prompted Col. Paul Ogbebor, the senatorial candidate of A.N.P.P. to pledge office equipment for a 3-bed room flat secretariat, which is yet to be formally secured by the congress as his own support to the Youths. Know it that in our efforts to rejuvenate the cultural values for which our youths right from the days of Oba Ewuare where renowned, no stone would be left unturned to manage the success achieved so far by the Congress. As the armies of the land, the B.N.C. will seek avenues to ensure the protection of our cherished values.
Once again, we advice that you feel free to inform the Congress of any issues necessary to the realization of set goals of Benin Nation.
Thanks for honoring our invitation and God bless.
