Communal Crisis - BNC Flays Edo

Benin

Against the backdrop of the lingering crisis rocking oil producing communities in Edo State the Benin National Congress (BNC), a pan socio-cultural organization of the Benin people has accused the state government of lacking the capacity to manage communal crisis.

A statement issued in Benin yesterday by the National President of the BNC, Mr. Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo said that it had earlier warned the government of the consequences of appointing people who are not from oil producing communities to head the commission, but it refused to listen.

"The Benin National Congress (BNC) as a stakeholder in the activities of the Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission had earlier advised the governor on the need to convoke a stakeholders forum aimed at placing square pegs in square holes by ensuring that the actual representatives of the people were appointed into the commission".

It therefore appealed to Governor Oserheimen Osunbor to listen to the genuine protests of the people and quickly nipping the crisis in its bud before it developed to a more serious issue, which could engender peace and security in the state.
